Hi, its that time of year. “Are we there yet” :), today we will look at how to trade summer ranges

I have already had a few tickets from folks asking when I think the summer ranges are starting. Have they already? Will they even start?

I have created a mini-video course on How to Trade ranges. In this first part its all about looking for clues as to when does a trend become a range.

Things to look for:

  • The structure. Is price trending up or down or starting to slow down- look on multiple timeframes for clues
  • Times of the year is an obvious one. Traditionally summer and December (often until MLK day around the 15th January) are slow weeks for trading. Most of the big participants are away. Without the volume, the price often just drifts
  • pullbacks/consolidations within trends
  • Bollinger bands
  • final option:  be patient, wait for ranges to develop, and then look to trade them. I show in part 2 how the AUD gave dozens of great trades from weekly charts over many years!
  • Prepare now for major areas that price could bounce off to start a range, then go down to smaller timeframes for clues (see the video)

In a couple of days, I will post parts 2 & 3 with lots of examples of successful range trades going back over 15 years. As ever we are looking for repeatable patterns.

I also show in today’s video those ranges that I will NOT trade and why.

Good range hunting 🙂
